No longer hiding human sexaulity but right therein the shopping mall.

Parents can just say its a grown up toy, clothes and video shop that helps grown ups want to snuggle up with each other, or help those who have nobody to snuggle up with when grwon up not be so sad
Seeone two in shopping malls so far… Was pretty surprised but looked to be a very good thing.

Was also thinking they should remove the 18 restriction and allow teens to come in and for groups like

FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
www.4yp.co.uk

FAMILY PLANNING ASSOCIATION
www.fpa.org.uk

SEXWISE
Tel: 0800 28 29 30
www.ruthinking.co.uk
Free confidential advice and information on sex, relationships and contraception, for anyone under 18.

to maybe work with them so they can be seen by young people as somewhere they can ask for advice as may appear non threatening. Maybe with leaflets etc outside
Why bid D?

what dont you get?
Bri chick the legal age for people to have sex is 16.

it therefore makes no sense to have an 18 rating.

Kids as young as 14 and 15 are sexaully active.

As said was suggesting youth sexaul helath and education groups work through the stores.

as it may make the teenagers feel more relaxed asking a young person questions which realte to pleasure from sexaulity like about blow jbs, or girls asking about masterbation, or things like that which most do want to know but not covered generally in sex ed.

And as said in Holland around 14 tehy take the mystery out of things on a policy that kids hould not have any info missed out.

mosley the shop windos are warm, fun and only have the equivalent of fancy dress and lungerie in the shop front which could just as easily be Marks and Spencers underwear collection. or swim wear to the kid
Emily Jane.

If staff can be trained to discuss how a rabbit vibrator with waves if better then a standard one , then training in giving safe sex advice should be a doddle.

Plus kids clearly dont use those phone lines.

in many cases they aren’t even aware they exist as nobody tells them.

hence making a safe welcoming way for them to ask said questions and maybe put onto those phone lines.

Loulla has my vote so far but a few things you need to think about.

Namely the age on concent is 16.

Thats two years before 18… where you could have sex 6 times a day& night or more every one of the over 700 days legally in all ways you wish before 18.

So really the 18 restriction seems plain silly.

Like a teenage couple who has been going stead since 15 and active since 16 is going to be bothered by porn.

Hoever the kinds of questions I would expect directed to ann Summers Staff would not be so much the how can I get pregnant.

More what does sperm taste like or can I give bf something so it dont taste so icky.

whats a co**k ring ‘ heard one mentioned in the Christian Slater movie ‘Pump up the volume’

Whats a blow jB?

Is a fluffer a good job (ie the lads have suggested a mate goes and applies for a fluffer job with playboy as it fluffy the pillows— which it certainly is not) you know the normal set kid up for micky taking

I’m finding it difficult to evaluate the question. BIG D

To be honest im mixed , as an adult its ok , but for me im nt comfy with my kids being able to go in there and perhaps get a distorted image on things , which i think with the wrong information they may very well get, im sure man y liberalists will say they should be more informed , but theres a great difference between being informed about sexuality, protection etc and then anne summers, one step at a time is what i would prefer .
I certainly dont think they should lift the over 18 thing either , i think that they are being responsible there i for one would no be happy with my 13 year old being able to wander in there , or to make matters worse my 8 year old , they dont not need that kind of education so young .
    Just my humble opinion. britchick

I wouldn’t mind them being there if they could block out the windows. The displays are quite shocking and the posters….well. My son is just learning to read and he will read everything, so we have to bypass A.S when we shop.
In short I don’t think we need it ramming down our throats…. Bag

I am a little confused by this question, but if you are asking our opinion on them, then I think that Ann Summers shops are actually very tasteful in the way they lay there stores out. They have only the lingerie at the front of the shop, which is no different to a department store advertising their lingerie. All of the adult toys are right at the back of the shop so that passing children have no chance of seeing them. The majority that I have been in have a dividing wall, so you sort of go into a separate room. chelle0980

I don’t have a problem with Ann Summers shops being in the malls at all, but I did feel I had to answer your question about Ann Summers being a place where teenagers can get advice on sex. The shop assistants in Ann Summers are simply shop assistants and I would feel very wary about teenagers getting advice from them- they are not trained to give it, and I would feel uncomfortable working their if I felt that was part of my role. There are phone lines for informed advice if teenagers don’t wish to speak to a teacher/ parent etc that they can use.

I see your point, but I still don’t like the idea of sex education of vulnerable young people being left to sales assistants. emily_jane2379

why do people think we must hide sex? gets to me that people moan about teenage mums, yet want to hide sex as if its a dirty thing. the displays are far from shocking, unless seeing a manikin with bra and pants on is too much for some people. they don’t put vibrators, etc in the window as it would just cause many mnay questions from young children and immature teens to go “ooo…look!! hehehehehehe” the only thing different in Ann summers displays at the front of the shops is that the manikins might be holding a whip, or have a feather boa on…ooo…because that makes it so dirty.
when my daughter is older and askes what ann summers is i’ll just say “a shop for mummies and daddies and people in love, not for you until your much older” simple. if people don’t want to go in to detail what it is, they don’t have to.
it just seems people are saying shops like Ann Summers (no hint of sex in the name, not evn a bit) are dirty and should be hidden, but ones like…La Senza its fine? now to me La Senza sounds a bit more sexy than Ann summers. you should see the ‘difference’ in displays of them. in MK where i live, in the shopping center the two shops are next to each other, and well, the displays are pretty much the same!!

sex is not something to be ashamed of, and wanting to get things to use with a partner or alone should not be taboo. evilbunnyhahaha

Ann Summers is GREAT, especially for married or long term serious couples. I’ve held a few Ann Summers parties with my family and friends and have had the most hilarious times EVER at them. Call it disgusting, I don’t care-it designed for women BY a woman. Some people use the products to spice up their sex lives a bit. (I got outfits and stuff in there and I’m not ashamed to say it. I was probably wearing one the night our baby was conceived!) You have to be over 18 to hold and Ann Summers party though, and for good reason. sod it, I didn’t have one until last summer, when I was 25!!!

I don’t think that the age restrictions should be lifted because it goes further than just a few dildo’s and body chocolate in there…check their website-it gets pretty graphic….

The front of them where I am in the UK (there’s one in Lakeside shopping centre) looks just like a lingerie shop; they have dummies with pyjamas on them, bra’s and knicker sets on, that sort of thing.

The ones the dummies have are actually no more offensive than Marks & Spencer bra and knicker sets which I found quite a shock-I thought it’d be much worse!
I even bought some pink pyjamas for the summer in there. Plain pink shorts and vest set with a heart on the front in diamante’s. NOT what you’d expect from in there.

So unless you take your kid IN the shop (all the naughty stuff is kept at the back, out of sight behind a shop screen!) they need never know what the shop was actually renowned for, and it’s not a problem.

Sex isn’t something to be frightened of…but pregnancy and diseases/infections are.

This is what we need to teach our children; it’s not down to the shop staff to explain how to use a vibrator to kids-thats just wrong and could be misread as child abuse!
At the parties though, where everyone must be over 18 years old and female, the lady taking the party will talk through the different types of vibe and explain where the differences are. They’re aimed at adults, ONLY ADULTS SHOULD HAVE ACCESS TO THEM.

ADD-IN: Oh yea, the legal age of consent for sex is 16, but Ann Summers have an age restriction on their parties-you do need to be over 18 to hold one or to attend one, or even to be a hostess and/or work for Ann Summers.
I thought it was a bit silly meself, until I saw some of the stuff you can get in there! Loulla
