No more than $100. The kid most likely has clothes from years before, its not like they arent allowed to wear old clothes. 100 bucks can get a couple jeans and tops. maybe shoes. a new wardrobe is definately not necessary. queen me

$150.00-$200.00 if you want decent clothes and shoes. That’s what I usually spend on my step-son, it’s hard to make sure he’s in style AND has enough clothes that he doesn’t have to repeat the same thing in one week and not spend at least $150.00. Hope that helped mamak2327

I’d say about 50-70 bucks on supplies (back pack, paper, folders, pens, etc.)

200 -300 on clothes. It’s muy importante to have cool clothes in school. Trust me. My mom dressed me in Salvation Army clothes growing up and I continue to resent her for it. I’m a 28 year old label w-h-o-r-e. Charles

I don’t think there’s a specific amount of money you need to spend on school shopping. You should buy everything that you actually need within your budget. living.crazy

I don’t think a kid should spend too much, maybe about 100 or 200. Personally, I don’t do much shopping during the summer because I know that I always buy more clothes during the rest of the school year so my wardrobe looks fresh. =] im_roasty

  18. Nicolee says:

you should have to spend anything.
lol my parents just give me like $700 for back to school to get like..
    all of my supplies..
    and thn shoes
    clothes
    bags
    etc.

but if i spend it all..
thn they just make me pay for whatever else i want.

usually my supplies cost like $100-$150
and the rest is bags shoes and accessories etc.

but dont just buy a whole bunch of clothes and then ditch your old ones.

maybe just buy 2 new outfits for the first week of schooll..
and as each week goes buy.. add another piece to your wardrobe like a tshirt or pair of awesome jeans.
so thn you always have new styles to work with..
and that will actually make you spend lless money because you wont feel the urge to buy a whole bunch of new clothes and refresh your style completly. Nicolee

What does the kid really need?
    Look in the closet.
Don’t forget underwear, socks, sneakers, dress shoes, backpack, sportswear (If a sport is played).
What no longer fits? jeans, sweats, tops, jacket- only buy these things if they don’t fit. Do not be swayed by fashion, it is fickle.
In this economy – yes we are in a recession- buy good quality but not over priced goods. Cheap deals will fall apart and need replaced too soon.
be really thrifty if you have more than one kid.
I can’t put a sticker price on the whole kit, you got to do the research. I suggest you do this on your own and come up with a dollar amount limit before you step into a store with a child of any age. dumshitz

  21. crazymama says:

    It depends on the kid.

For clothing, I’m sure that I’ve spent $1000 so far this year on my 2 girls (5 & 7). That isn’t an exaggeration either. That includes socks, tennis shoes, fashion shoes~~flip flops, boots (2-3 pairs), dress shoes (2-4 pairs), tights, knee socks, head bands and other hair accessories, panties. Cheer shoes, basketball shoes. Lots of jeans, t-shirts~both long and short sleeved, hoodies, skirts, skorts, leggings, dresses. It’s crazy!

I know people like to pass down clothing as much as possible, but I feel weird doing it. I had to convince myself to hand down all of my oldest daughter’s jeans to her sister only because they’re all in like new condition still. Since they’re in the same school, I feel weird doing that. Maybe because I went to the same school and would get rummage sale clothes and hear in school “Hey, I used to have a _____ just like that one” and it got old fast. I’m sure no one’s going to remember that her sister wore those exact jeans last year, but it’s still in the back of my mind.

If this kid is active in sports, the amount should be greater than if they’re not. If this is a teen-ager, labels often matter~~maybe save some money by purchasing lots off eBay.

For grade school~~$300-500 per kid. Jr. High and up, the price depends on activities, but $500 and up from there. crazymama

  22. Sam says:

$300… It’s always good if we stick to our list! As easy as this may sound – it’s not! Don’t waste your money buying supplies that look cute. When you buy supplies at discount stores during their back-to-school sales, stock up on items you’ll need during the year such as pencils, pens, rulers and paper. Sam

    I get 600, but I thing 2000 or 3000 is reasonable TennisPlayerLove

  26. Melissa P says:

I personally think you should just buy them 2-3 pairs of jeans and then maybe 4-6 shirts (people will notice them wearing the same shirt over and over before they notice their jeans). Then just buy them a new pair of shoes. Most likely your kids are gonna be getting clothes at Christmas, birthdays, and summer anyways so there should be some leftover clothes to wear anyways.
