is it common for mystery shopping companies to request your social security number?

I’m finding that some of the mystery shopping companies that I have found are asking for my social security number. Is this normal practice? I’m leary of supplying this information.

Never give anyone on the internet your social security number ever for any reason. If you are using a credit card to buy something make sure it is one that you request a very low balance like $1000. that you pay off at the end of the month. Never use a regular one that you have a large balance on.
some companies furnish a prepaid credit card that only allows what you have paid them to be on it. So if they try to use your credit card they can’t get much. bobby
Yes, they are required to report your earnings to the IRS via form 1099 if you make more than $599 in a calendar year and they need your social security number to do this. All mystery shopping companies will ask you for this.
They will almost all require a paypal account to get paid as well, its just easiest for them.
What to watch out for is if they ask you for money. Never pay them. They pay you. Brandi C
