What is the best background color and pattern to use in an online store to put people in the shopping mood?
I am building a web store. I want something professional looking and aesthically pleasing, but I also want to use a background color or pattern that puts people in the shopping mood. Any suggestions on background patterns and or colors?

I think (personally) orange charms me more while I am shopping, full of live and so energy-giving

I would suggest using muted colors for the background… Whites, light grays, light browns/tans, or light blues. The background color isn’t going to put your users in a shopping mood. Highlighting your featured products and including large, detailed photos of items with detailed descriptions are the things that really attract shoppers and convince them it’s time to buy.
If you want to better understand the “meanings” of color, you can check this page out:
Red is probably the color best suited for “shopping.” Red symbolizes confidence and action. SonicD
Good post from sonicD, only thing I would not sudgest red, use green instead, its permisive, like grren ligt on the road, it sends signal “GO” to a human brain, people feel safe with green, red is more alert, stop, warning.
Also with all those color meaning in the mind dont forget about color harmony in general, make sure colors you use are compatible with each other.
Try using online Color Wheel tools as well, heres link to google search :
